Feel the culture of the Three Kingdoms with ScienJoy

A big live stream of “Hello, New China-Chinese Opera, Pick Me” organized by Mobile Management Bureau, Showself Entertainment, and Guangming.com was aired recently.  The event took place in  Hubei Peking Opera theatre performing he famous Peking Opera “Go through the River and Win The Battles”. The event was also stream on live broadcast platform.

Practice Harder to Inherit The Classic Opera

Tang Kai, an acclaimed actor, consequently plays the role of Zhaoyun. He explained that the play tells the story of  "Go Through the River and Win the Battle". Although the story has many martial arts part, this play put more emphasis on singing. In this play, Zhaoyun does a lot of martial art trick while also showing great knowledge of wisdom. Considering the martial art training aspect, Peking Opera performers need to start training at an early age to ensure they possess adequate skills to perform the required movement. 

“At the age of 10, I entered drama school. At that time, I was less than 1.4 meters tall. At the age of 11, I performed "Lin Chong Night Rush" for the first time on stage,” recalled by Tang Kai. He used the word “Bitter” to conclude that period; he always end up exhausted and drained in sweat after every rehearsal. Over the years, Tang Kai was taught by Li Yusheng, Zhang Youlin, Wang Ping, Ni Haitian, Mi Fusheng, Yang Changxiu, Cheng Shuqiang, Zhou Long and many other teachers; all are very renowned in the acting field. With solid martial arts skills and singing ability, he became one of the outstanding young martial arts actors in Hubei Peking Opera.

Focus on Innovation and Promotion

Wuhan always put a lot of emphasis on the traditional Chinese opera culture. It was declared one of the “Four piers of Chinese Opera” with Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai. The manager in charge of Peking Opera in Hubei province said, Hubei has the old haunt of The Three Kingdoms which represents a historical-cultural environment. Theaters there often perform some plays related to it; for example, "Go Through The River and Win The Battle" and “Qun Jie Hua”. These Peking Opera is very popular for opera actors from all ages. In terms of training their young talents, they provide comprehensive rehearsal to enhance their skills. Additionally, the theater also arranges professional performers to go to school drama and art school. They give free tickets to college students to attract them to watch the opera.

Opera utilize live stream as a form to spread its charm. During the 90-minute live stream, online audiences watched the traditional and classic Peking Opera "Go Through The River and Win The Battle". Afterwards the two main actors, Zhang Fei and Sun Shangxiang  tell the stories behind their roles. This show achieved a huge success and it got more than one million views on that day.
